A Model to Predict Calgary Wetland Condition | ![]() |
Miistakis staff are co-authors on a new paper published in the journal Ecological Indicators on “Expert-assisted statistical learning techniques for assessing wetland conditions in urban landscapes.” We worked with Calgary Parks and two amazing wetland specialists - Dr. Irena Creed from University of Toronto and Dr. Felix Nwaishi from Mount Royal University. Special thanks to Kevin Erratt (from Irena’s lab at UofT) as lead author on this one. Together we developed a model to predict urban wetland health based on a series of spatial indicators. The predictive model enables the City of Calgary to assess wetland condition and in consideration of three important wetland functions, water quality, hydrology and ecological. This work can be used by The City of Calgary to help identify wetlands for protection or restoration. We were honoured to be a part of this partnership. | |
