Summer Student Profile: Alexa Storoziuk | ![]() |
Hello, my name is Alexa Storoziuk and I am a biology student at Mount Royal University. My interests lie in conservation ecology, and I love anything marine, amphibian or reptile related. I also enjoy looking at how climate change and urbanization impact wildlife. This summer I am working as a student research assistant for the Miistakis Institute working on the Waterton Amphibian Tunnel project. This tunnel was designed to help many species cross the road safely, especially Long Toed Salamanders as they cross the highway in between their breeding season. Our goal is to evaluate its effectiveness by analyzing camera footage to identify species, frequency, and patterns of use. This work will contribute to broader efforts to improve habitat connectivity and reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions in protected areas. Through this project, I am gaining valuable hands-on experience in field research and data analysis, and I am excited to contribute to real-world conservation outcomes that align closely with my academic and career interests. | |
