We are very excited to share some big news with all of you. Miistakis was recently awarded a Calgary Foundation Major Grant in support of our Nature's Network initiative focused on advancing ecological connectivity in southwestern Alberta. This multi-year initiative builds on collaborative work we have been doing in two key areas: the Greater Calgary Region (Calgary, Rocky View and Foothills County) and SW Alberta along the Highway 3 Corridor (M.D. Crowsnest Pass and M.D. Pincher Creek). Solutions for ensuring these landscapes remain connected are complex and require coordinated efforts across jurisdictions, sound science, careful planning, supportive policies and a societal understanding of the importance of investing in nature and connectivity. This vital funding will help us delineate and strengthen wildlife corridors, integrate ecological connectivity to planning and policy, and foster landscape-level resilience in some of Alberta's most ecologically significant regions. We are deeply grateful to the Calgary Foundation for their generous support and continued commitment to conservation and community wellbeing. Together, we're building a future where people and nature thrive. Stay tuned for updates as this important work unfolds! We are also very excited as this week Miistakis, together with our partners, ACA, Y2Y, Parks Canada and ARC Solutions will co-host the first Canadian Ecological Connectivity conference in Banff. This meeting will bring together a wide range of voices including practitioners, non-profit organizations, businesses, communities, Indigenous representatives, universities, and decision-makers from municipal, provincial, and federal agencies. Our goal is to connect, collaborate, and share ideas that support ecological corridors, highlight Indigenous stewardship values, improve habitat connectivity, and explore infrastructure solutions that work for both wildlife and people across Canada. Miistakis is proud to have helped pull this important event together and we look forward to the engaging dialogue and meeting old and new friends. Check out more about the conference here.
