Wild Watch

Wild Watch was created in partnership with Cenovus Energy to increase employee awareness of wildlife stewardship and to generate a real-time spatial digital dataset of wildlife observations and human-wildlife interactions to inform wildlife management plans. Wild Watch participants use a smartphone app and/or on-line mapping tool to enter their wildlife observations.

The observations provided by participants aims to reduce human and industrial impacts and improve coexistence of humans and wildlife. Wild Watch also has some other useful features including the ability to search the collected data and to send an alert to Wild Watch participants if there are observations that involve a human-wildlife conflict, species at risk or species of management concern.

The Miistakis Institute and Cenovus Energy are working to engage additional Wild Watch partners. Wild Watch can be modified to suit the needs of other organizations and the tools are open source and can be redeveloped for different purposes.
