Private Land Conservation Fundamentals Certificate

In partnership with Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension, Miistakis created a webinar-based Fundamentals of Private Land Conservation Certificate program.

Private land conservation is a critical component of protecting Alberta’s natural heritage, and the focus of much land use discussions and policy development. In the last two decades, the practice of private land conservation has evolved to a complex professional practice, in need of knowledgeable practitioners in land trusts and municipalities, and knowledgeable conservation-minded landowners.

However, the private land conservation sector is hampered by a lack of training opportunities tailored to the needs of Albertans. Working with Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension, Miistakis delivered a three-part certificate program in Private Land Conservation Fundamentals in the Fall 2014 session. The webinar-based presentations included the Conservation Easements - Latest Policy and Tools, Municipalities and Private Land Conservation, and Using GIS in Private Land Conservation. The program is slated to be repeated in the Spring of 2015
