Literature Review on Golf Course Impacts on Wildlife

back

The Miistakis Institute for the Rockies was contracted by Alberta Environment to document the current state of knowledge on the impact of golf courses on ungulates, carnivores and fur-bearers. In particular, the review focused on the compatibility/incompatibility of golf courses in relation to movement corridors and habitat use.

There were very few studies found, with the exception of elk, which assessed wildlife movements and habitat use prior to and post golf course development. Therefore, studies were reviewed which assessed the sensitivity of specific species to habitat alteration and an increase in human presence. These studies, combined with anecdotal observations, formed the basis for the report.
