Local and Regional Effects Analysis

back

Miistakis worked for the Pekisko Land Owners Association to conduct a Local and Regional Ecological Effects Analysis for lands within the boundary of the Foothills Parkland natural subregion, south of the Highwood River. Miistakis summarized the impacts of a proposed gas development on the study area's vegetation in three components:

  • loss of rare vegetation and challenges in restoration,
  • invasion of native prairie by non-native species following disturbance, and
  • fragmentation of native parkland.

The report also included a literature review and preliminary cumulative effects analysis (using the ALCES model) for the local and regional study area.
