Wolf using underpass

Wolves, wolves, everywhere…

Please visit our Highway Wilding blog to read the latest post from our intrepid field researcher Mirjam who writes about the recent wolf action on highway underpasses in Banff National Park.  She has also shared a very cool sequence of wolf images.

Most people who have traveled the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) through Banff are familiar with the iconic wildlife overpasses, however many people do not know that there are also a whole series of wildlife underpasses that also enable wildlife movement across the highway. There will be 39 wildlife underpasses on the 83 km stretch of the TCH after completion of phase 3B in 2013- the most anywhere in the world for one single stretch of highway!  And yes, these wildlife underpasses do work.
